Let kids amuse themselves while sneakily changing their diet.  Even little ones can make this no-cook candy; Fudge Rum Truffles.

I've had several requests for candied ginger other than Candied Chopped Ginger in Syrup.  Many people, however, like candied slices for garnish or just to munch upon.  I had a link, but it went dead.  Here's some more for Crystallized Ginger.

While the classic toasted-rice/marshmallow recipe adds only sugar and a little fat to the refined but fortified rice, this recipe for Crisp Rice Candy Squares offers additional nutrition and flavor.

This recipe for Buzzards' Nests was swiped from Recipe Du Jour's  excellent newsletter.  It's low fat, whole grain, has some protein . . . a pretty good trade-off for the sugar it contains.  These candies are a fine treat for Halloween.

Like most candies, Chocolate Spiders is loaded with sugar, fat and salt, so it may not be for you.   But if you are going to offer a treat anyway, or the kids are agitating to make their own,  try this one.
