Don't color inside the lines!

Why be restricted? Why follow someone else’s ideas? It’s your life. Color your life anywhere and any way you see fit. If coloring inside the lines doesn’t suit your lifestyle, color outside the lines. Strike out into new territory. Be a trailblazer, not a follower. Don’t let someone else set the boundaries of your life.

“They” draw the lines and tell you to color inside them.

And why make the sun orange and the grass green? Maybe your vision of the world includes purple grass and a polka-dot sun. So be it. Just as you don’t have to color inside the lines, you also don’t have to use the “approved,” standard colors.

Your life is like that. You don’t have to follow anyone else’s ideas for how to live it.

Yes, you have to obey the laws of the land.

Yes, you should be kind to and thoughtful of Mother Nature and how you treat the resources of this world.

Yes, you should also be kind to and thoughtful of your fellow citizens on this planet, whether friends, relatives, business associates, neighbors, or total strangers.

But if you are doing all these things, the rest of how you live your life is up to you. From your aspirations to the way you dress to the hours you keep, it’s your life and your call. If you’re not hurting anyone else (including their feelings, not just their physicality) or harming the earth or breaking a law, no one has the right to tell you, “Do it my way.” No one has the right to tell you, “This is a picture of a house. Color it brick-red and be sure to stay inside the lines.”

You color anywhere you please—and if you want to make the bricks chartreuse or purple or yellow, go ahead and do it.

It’s your picture to color however you wish.

And it’s your life to lead however you please.

You don’t have to color within the lines.
