Healthy Snacks from AvMed

AvMed published the following suggestions to members of the HMO in its magazine, "Accent":  

"Instead of reaching for a Snickers or a bag of chips, try one of these healthy snacks:

  • Air-popped popcorn seasoned with herbs
     
  • Breadsticks
     
  • Broth-based soups
     
  • Cereals, low-sugar, low-fat
     
  • Fresh fruit
     
  • Frozen fruit-juice bars
     
  • Gingersnaps
     
  • Graham crackers
     
  • Low-fat or no-fat frozen yogurt
     
  • Milk shake with low-fat milk and frozen fruit
     
  • Pita chips with salsa
     
  • Plain nonfat yogurt with fruit and cinnamon
     
  • Pretzels
     
  • Rye crisps or rice cakes thinly spread with peanut butter or low-fat cheese
     
  • Sorbet
     
  • Vegetables marinated in vinegar or dipped in low-fat yogurt seasoned with herbs
     
  • Whole-wheat crackers

Here's another suggestion from the Sneaky Kitchen.  If you are trying to control fatty and/or fiberless snacks,  print this list and tape it to the refrigerator door.   Make sure you have all the raw ingredients on hand.   When the munchies take over, the choices will be right in your face, reminding you of what you oughta be eating!
