A recipe from the Sneaky Kitchen
1 C. almond or coconut milk, unsweetened
1/2 tsp. ground turmeric, or 2 or 3 thin slices of raw turmeric
1/2 of a cinnamon stick or 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 or 3 thin slices of fresh ginger, or 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
2 or 3 black peppercorns or a small pinch of black pepper
1 tsp. coconut oil (optional)
honey to taste, preferably local & raw
You may double this recipe if you prepare in a pan on the stove, or make a single cup in the microwave. For stovetop, bring to a boil, stirring frequently, & simmer for a few minutes, stirring once in a while. It will become a golden color.
Or use a large coffee mug, a 2 cup glass measuring cup, soup mug or even a gravy boat, as long as it is microwave safe. Add milk, then other ingredients except honey, ending with the oil. Watch it doesn't boil over. If using the microwave, bring it a boil several times, letting it steep in between. Strain into a cup, using a fine sieve. Add honey to taste. Stir when you take a sip, as any ground spice will settle out.
If you made only 1 cup, have another. Add almond or coconut milk to the strained items plus 1/2 tsp. of any other ingredients that were ground, & the oil. When finished cooking, add honey to taste.
