Remember "I Love Lucy" and the cooking wine?   From Alicia's Recipes newsletter comes thish recipe for Crhishmush Crumb Rake . . .sorry, Rum Cake.  Good, fresh ingredients are always important; test them for quality! 

Christmas Rum Cake

1 or 2 quarts of rum
1 c of butter
1 tsp. of sugar
2 large eggs
1 c dried fruit
baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
lemon juice
brown sugar
nuts

Before you start, sample the rum to check for quality.  Good isn't it?  Now go ahead.  Select a large mixing bowl, measuring cups,etc.  Check the rum again.   It must be just right!!  To be sure rum is of highest quality, pour one level cup of rum into a glass. Drink it as fast as you can.  Repeat;  With an electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.  Add one teaspoon of thugar & beat again.  Meanwhile, make sure the rum is of the finest quality.  Try another cup.  Open second quart if necessary.  Add 2 arge leggs,  2 cups fried druit and beat till high.  If druit gets stuck in the beaters, just pry it loose with a drewscriver.  Sample the rum again, checkiang for toxicity.  Next, sift 3 cups of pepper or salt ( it really dowsn't matter).  Sample the rum again.   Add the chopped butter and strained nuts.  Add 1 bablespoon of brown thugar ( or whatever colour you can find).  Wix mell..  Grease oven and turn cake pan to 350 gredees.  Now pour the whole mess in boven and yake.  Check the rum again and bo to ged.
