A stick blender is one of the most valuable electric appliance you can add to your kitchen.  I'm sure there are many great brands, but I've always found the Braun blender to be the best.  It also comes with a GREAT small food chopper/processor, wonderful for herbs, garlic, additions to salads, pureeing small amounts and more.  Another attachment sometimes available is a tiny beater, great for whipping one egg or a small pkg. of instant pudding.  It rinses clean in a moment, saving the extra work involved in cleaning a regular blender container and lid.  Here's one quick use.

Fruit Smoothie

1 small banana or half a large one
large handful of berries, a sliced ripe peach or apricot or mango, a chunk of papaya or other fruit
about 1/2 cup of fat-free or low-fat yogurt
a little skim milk
sweetener - your choice
few drops of fruit extract - either the same kind or a complementary one
powdered vitamin, protein or soy supplement
ice cubes
