Regarding Susan's request for a Golden Glory Tube Cake (see forum), try this recipe from the Settlement Cookbook (1951 edition).  This is another recipe that's low on fat, and therefore somewhat lower on calories.

Orange Puff Cake

Preheat oven to 325° F

6 eggs, separated
2 cups sugar
2 cups cake flour
2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup boiling water
grated rind of 1 orange

Sift the flour together with the baking powder.

Beat egg yolks well, add 1 cup sugar and beat until light.  Add orange juice and rind, then water, then flour.

Beat egg whites, gradually add the remaining cup of sugar, and beat until stiff.  Add yolk mixture, folding in until blended.

Place in a 10-inch ungreased tube pan.  Bake for 20 minutes, then increase the heat to 350° and bake for about 55 minutes more, or until a straw inserted in cake comes out clean.

Frost if desired with a fluffy icing - see White Mountain - to which you have added 1 tsp. orange extract and a little bit of yellow food coloring.
