If the Golden Glory tube cake Susan wants is yellow all through with a lemon flavor, try Fanny Farmer's light, sweet and flavorful Sunshine Cake.  It's also lower in fat that most cake recipes.

Sunshine Cake

Preheat oven to 325° F

8 eggs, separated
2 tsp grated lemon zest (rind)
1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 tsp
cream of tartar
1 cup cake flour
1/4 tsp.
salt

Line the bottom of a 10-inch tube pan with wax paper cut to fit.  Beat the egg yolks, add the lemon zest and 1 cup of the confectioners' sugar, and beat until thick and pale; set aside.

Beat the whites until foamy; add the cream of tartar, and beat until the whites form soft peaks.  Gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup of confectioners' sugar and beat until stiff.

Stir a fourth of the whites into the yolk mixture.  Spoon the remaining whites on top of the yolk mixture and sift the flour and salt over them.  Carefully fold until blended.   Spoon into the ungreased, lined tube pan, and bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until a straw comes out clean.  Invert the pan on a rack, and let the cake cool completely before removing from the pan.

Frost if desired with a fluffy icing - see White Mountain - to which you have added 1 tsp. lemon extract and a few drops of yellow food coloring.
