My first taste of Thousand Island Salad Dressing was in Nebraska when I was eleven years old (see Cotner Blvd. & Thousand Island).  Heaven!  Possibly the best salad dressing on the planet in my opinion.  The recipe is flexible; some people choose chopped olives instead of pickle, some omit onion or add finely chopped green pepper, and (horrors!) some use ketchup instead of chili sauce.  The seasonings are optional too.  This recipe reduces calories and unhealthy fats with lite (or fat free) mayonnaise or Miracle Whip.

Thousand Island Salad Dressing

3/4 C. lite mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
3 Tbsp chili sauce
3 Tbsp sweet pickle relish with its juice
1 rounded Tbsp grated or finely chopped onion
2 T. grated or finely chopped celery
Dash
hot pepper sauce or Worcestershire sauce
1 egg, hard boiled, chopped and crumbled
1/2 tsp
dried tarragon, marjoram or parsley
