I was cleaning my oven when the spray got on the light bulb and it shattered. I didn't want to continue cleaning the oven with sharp glass and exposed wires from the bulb, so I unplugged the stove and removed the bulb. After I finished cleaning the oven I plugged the unit back in and now my oven does not come on. I checked the gas valve and it is still open. There is no gas smell or ignition or anything when I turn on the oven. The top burners still work fine. It is a GE XL44 unit.
First, did you replace the light bulb? If not, that may be the reason. Second, does the light work now? If not, check your circuit breaker. Whether it works or not, check next to see if the stove has a fuse. When the light bulb broke, it might have tripped the circuit breaker or blown a fuse. Most of these "remedies" would apply only to newer stoves, not the 50 year old elephant I replaced only last year.
If none of this works, DON'T MESS AROUND!!! You'll have to call a service technician. Home repairs of gas stoves can be very dangerous.
