I have a GE XL44 gas oven, for about a week now it won't heat up. The broiler works as do the burners but when i set my oven to the temp I want ,once it stops blinking it goes to 100 degrees on the display and it stays there but it doesnt heat up. The troubleshooting in the back of the manual was no help. Any thoughts, anybody?

My GE XL44 gas oven stopped heating up while cooking the Thanksgiving turkey on Thursday. The temperature of the turkey just coasted across the finish line, as the oven stopped working sometime after the 2 hour mark.  It hasn't started again since.

I get exactly the same behavior reported earlier here.

Mine just started today. Any ideas on how to fix it and exactly what "it" is.

I am in contact with GE and they assure me they will get back to me. I'll keep following up.

We have the same behavior on ours.  I cleaned dust off the starter, and it started to work for a month.  Now it doesn't work anymore.:(

Mine is doing the exact same thing.  It is about 13 years old and has been perfect until a few days ago.  I was hoping there were some replies!

Mine just started doing the exact same thing this past week.  All functions work great except for the fact that it won't heat up in the bake cycle.  I tried self cleaning and it worked for another day...but then nothing.

Well, so much for customer service.  A GE representative assured me they would look into it and get back to me.  No one has done so.  More and more it seems like customer service is an endangered species.  Recently I replaced a 50 yr old gas stove, a 38 yr old gas dryer, 2  25-yr old air conditioners and a 28 year old refrigerator.  One reason I hung on to them so long is that I have a suspicion their replacements will last a much shorter length of time.

There are other complaints on the web about this same model; obviously it had a problem to begin with, and GE doesn't want to address it.   If they could only tell us what the problem was, we could either fix it, hire someone to do so, or decided to go to a newer model.  If any of you do replace your oven, I suggest you buy a model other than GE, then write to GE and tell them why you did so.  Please, all of you, keep me posted.

I contacted GE again, and unless your ovens are in warrenty, they will charge to fix it.  They will not even address what might be wrong!   I told them that this is not good customer relations, but they won't be moved.  Call 1-800-386-1215 but I expect they will just want to send a technician at your expense.   I stand by my previous advice; if an appliance does the same thing to so many people, and the company won't address it, that isn't good company relations.

Perhaps they are afraid you might be handy, buy a part and fix it yourself, taking profits away from their repair department.

If you are handy, you may be able to diagnose the problem, order the part and even find out how to install it, by clicking here:

I had the same problem on my Xl44.  Just sitting at 100 deg and no glow bar...

Check the oven glow bar.  It's easy, just check for continuity between the leads at the glow bar.

No continutiy - It's bad and needs to be replaced!

Continuity and Resistance (78 Ohms on my broiler glow bar) - It's good!

If your broiler is working, check that glow bar and it has continuity and resistance.

I am having the same problem with my GE Profile Spectra XL44 Self Cleaning Oven.  I hit "bake" button, set it for 400 degrees, went to prepare my muffins and 20 minutes later it was still reading 100 degrees.  My stove is 6.5 years old.  Can't believe we are ALL having the same problem.  I have found other complaints on the web about this same thing.  Some law office is actually listing a class action suit on the web.  Anyway, this site had some help  http://www.fixya.com/support/p128384-ge_profile_spectra_jgbp90_gas_kitchen

Sounds like we will need a new oven igniter.  Needless to say we will have to call someone 1st thing monday and have them look at it.  Hopefully it won't be to expensive, if so might need to get a new oven - WON'T BE GE.  Good Luck to everyone

No wonder GE won't talk to me.  They probably have instructions not to because of a pending lawsuit.

Igniters do go bad, one of several reasons I have a gas cooktop and an electric oven.  We had a Whirlpool gas dryer for 38 years, probably should have replaced it after the first 30 but I had a sense of humor about it at that point and wanted to see how long it would go.  After the first time the igniter went out when we moved it, the technician told us to be VERY CAREFUL cleaning out lint, moving, etc. as the igniter was delicate.  In 38 years we went through 3 igniters.

By the way, the dang dryer was still working but had caught on fire twice, and I replaced it after the second time.  It was so worn that lint was escaping the drum and accumulating right on top of the igniter/burner part, a recipe for major disaster if I wasn't right on the spot when it caught fire!!

Do you have any information about the class action lawsuit? We have had three of these ovens in two houses, there are two at our church, and my sister has one...they are all having the same problem.

Well we bought a new oven igniter at our local appliance store ($63) and my husband replaced it no problems.  It work fine now...

Sounds like that's the problem with most of these ovens.  If you can't get the part locally, you can get it for about the same price at the following link, and they even have hints on how to install it.
