A friend gave me an electric crepe maker- Grandinetti brand- with a convex nonstick surface.  This is a one piece item.  No instructions came with this.  Do I dip the convex surface into the crepe batter or pour a measured amount of batter over the top and hope it goes evenly down all sides without a mess?  Thank you.

I couldn't find anything at all on that brand... perhaps they don't make it any more. But your description is very clear, and here's one I'll bet is identical - with a demonstration of how to use it. See VillaWare. This looks like a great appliance; I always made them by trial and error with a small non-stick frying pan.

I have this crepe maker and it is wonderful.  There should be a shallow bowl with the maker.  Plastic, just slightly larger than the cook top, maybe 1" deep and shaped with the same concave curve as the cook top is convex.  You put batter in the bowl, turn the maker over, dip into the batter until the maker face is covered, turn it back over to cook.  When done, the crepe will be dry, and should peel off with a plastic spatula.  (Turn it over again and it will drop off!)  It makes wonderful crepes - light brown, perfectly round and thin.  Let them sit for a while before using - it will allow the gluten in the batter to set up and they won't tear.

I looked at the Villa ware mentioned above, but this is a press, and probably won't make such a thin and even crepe.  OK for tortillas but not for crepes.

Good Luck.

My attorney lent me her Grandinetti a couple of months ago and I was instructed to pour the batter into the pan it came with (cheap plastic) and then dip the rounded electric skillet into the pan to form a perfect crepe which could then be lifted off with a spatula!

Only problem, the crepe pan was already cracked on one side and a friend who was over my house at the time helping me make a few crepes kept the skillet in the pan too long and the pan literally disintegrated!  The Grandinetti was purchased over 25 years ago, but my lawyer took it well.  I gave her a glass pyrex dish to replace the cheap pan hoping that would work for her--however, the dish isn't very shallow, but I was able to make several crepes successfully.

By the way, where did you purchase your Grandinetti and for how much?  I have been looking for several weeks online and almost bought one at auction for $9.95, like new the ad said, but another buyer got to it first.

Hi   I just bought the crepe maker at a garage sale for $3. and no  instructions either, I tried a flat dish and dipped it, what a mess, and it started to cook the batter on the plate as well.  Do they sell better crepe makers?

I have one of the Grandinetti crepe machines in the original box with the original instruction book/recipe book.  The entire package looks circa 1974.  Neat little device!  You do dip the convex surface in the (provided) batter bowl and the put it down on the counter while it cooks.  Good luck!
