Hi all,

If you think buying a bigger amt. is cheaper than you probably spend more.

Well eg : a smaller bottle of powder cost a bit more than a bigger  bottle

when you compare the price with  the quantity (gms).

But the coffee, etc doesn't keep well once is opened. Often B4 you can  finish the smaller bottle , u find that it has already turned into a lump & color has  changed too( esp if you dont drink it daily). so for those who bought a bigger bottle U may face the same problem ...discarding the coffee powder . That actually cost more.

The same goes for poor storage of vegetables. We often buy for a few types of veg. these days cos we dont have the time to shop at the supermkt. daily. many a times the veg turn abit yellow B4 we get to cook it or may even have to discard it.

Wrapping the veg. in newspaper helps to maintain the condition instead of keeping them in the plastic bag in which the veg. were packed. Having too many different types of veg.placed in individual plastic bags also make the veg. turn yellow faster as the cool air in the fridge is reduced

What I normally do is : Lined 1 big plastic bag with  2 layer of newspapers the place the heavier  root veg. in 1st , then the greens on top. If you cant place all in this bag  than use another smaller bag and place some in the fruit compartment . This will still allow cool air circulation to the items stored on the fridge door. Small red chillis can last a long time if U wrap them with newspaper & place it in a small plastic bag, knot it B4 keeping in the fruit compartment.

Hi all,

Ever go to the wet mkt. and you see the fishmongers placing a few fishes on a plate( 2 to 3 or more if the fishes are smaller eg. ikan kunning ) & selling them slightly cheaper?

Well thats bcos we buy more , or so U thought. ... Look at the fishes carefully... U usu. find 1 that is not as fresh  placed underneath the fresh fish. In other words they mix the unsold fishes with the fresh ones.

This is definitely not cheaper.

Spanish mackeral is one fish that cannot be kept well even  in the freezer . The color changes even after 2 days and the appearance and smell can put u off.
