Stopping bacon, chops or steaks from curling when cooking:   When cooking meat and it begins to curl or twist, snip at the edges with the Utility Shears in several places until the meat lays flat in the pan or on the grill.  Repeat as necessary.

Keeping cut flowers fresh longer:  Fill vase with water.  A drop or three of bleach in the water will retard growth of bacteria, keeping the stems unclogged longer.   As you arrange flowers, wash each stem, removing any leaves that would be submerged in the water.  Cut the stems to varying lengths and immediately place in the vase with taller ones in the back.  Change water daily, and every other day use the Utility Shears to cut another 1/4" to 1/2" off the stem to keep the capillaries open and drinking water.

Harvesting Dooryard Fruit or Herbs from your Garden:  Cut stems rather than pulling, twisting or breaking when harvesting fruit, tomatos or herbs.  They will bruise less and stay fresh longer.  Put stem end of cut herbs in a glass of water, cover loosely with a plastic bag and place in refrigerator, to have at hand for tasty seasoning.
