Use incentives to
build "Clusters of Customers". When
you deliver a product to someone, give them a gift, for instance, a Handi
Brush. Then ask if they know their neighbor to their right, and the
name. To the left, and the name. Across the street. One
up, etc. At some point the customer will ask "Why?"
Respond that perhaps they would like to also have a free Handy Brush.
If the customer responds favorably, take down the names and house numbers of
all the neighbors they know. Then approach each neighbor. "I was just making
a deliver of Fuller Brush __product name_ to your neighbor,
Mrs. ________, and she thought you might like to have a free handy brush and
see our catalog (offering the brush). Most people will take the brush
and many will look at the catalog and place an order, either now or
later. (Tip: put a sticky label with your name and phone number
on each gift.)
