Approaching Businesses

You can earn money faster than any other way by selling your Fuller Brush Products in the workplace.

First, if you have another job, you can sell to your co-workers.  Most companies will object if you do it on company time, of course, but at lunch, break, or before or after work, you can show catalogs and spread the word.

In addition, you can go door-to-door to small businesses - offices, boutiques, beauty or barber shops, service establishments...     Take orders from the employees for their use at home, as well as from the owner/manager for use in cleaning the small business.

One of the greatest sellers is the sweeper.  Carry it to demonstrate.   Most companies need to keep a tidy floor to make a favorable impression on their customers, and of course they cannot drag out a vacuum cleaner every little bit.  The sweeper is quiet, handy, easy to hide and does a GREAT job.  Put it into the customer's hands and invite them to give it a try.  (Note that the 101 sweeper is usually preferred, but in areas with lots of stringy stuff (tailors, beauty shops, dog groomers) or sticky material (restaurants) the 100 Workhorse Sweeper is a better choice as it has a washable, tangle-free rubber brush.)

Be certain that you get the home telephone numbers of every customer who places an order.  Why?  Reason you give:  so you can call the evening before and find out if it will convenient for them to receive and pay for the order the next day.  Second reason for your own information:  people change jobs frequently, and when that happens, you don't want to lose a customer.  You'll have his or her phone number.

Don't be discouraged if you are turned away from many businesses; they may be busy at the time or have rules prohibiting solicitation.  Don't take it personally.  On the other hand, it's wiser not to visit eating places around mealtimes, or beauty and barber shops on Fridays and Saturdays, nor dress shops just before a holiday.

Sometimes you cannot get in to see most of the people in the business;   there is a "front person" - for instance a receptionist.   Give this person a small gift such as the vegetable brush, and ask if you can leave a catalog and pick it up in a couple of days.   Suggest he or she can let the people "in the back" know about the catalog, and that they can attach orders with their name and phone number to the catalog.   Don't forget to make a note to yourself with the address and pickup date!

Don't overlook the possibility that someone in the business might like to sign up as a Fuller rep - the owner or an employee.  That's great!  They are in a position to take many more orders in their workplace than you can, in addition to more sales from friends, relatives and other personal contacts they may have.  It's a good idea to always have at hand an application or two when you visit businesses, so you can sign up new reps on the spot.

If you want a fast start with Fuller Brush, this is the way to do it.
